A County wide residents conference took place on Saturday 24th June when TP Herts (Tenant Participation Hertfordshire) held its first highly successful residents conference. TP Herts consists of 20 housing providers (Local Authorities and Housing Associations), including Riversmead, who have properties in Hertfordshire. TP Herts exists to represent resident participation and community development workers throughout the County. To find out more about TP Herts visit the website www.tpherts.org.uk where you will also find lots of useful resources.

Residents received an invitation from their housing providers and as a result there was a fantastic turn out from across the County. The event was held at the Next Generation Sports Club in Hatfield and the delegates were able to attend workshops covering topics ranging from how to get more involved and influence decisions made about housing and neighbourhoods, to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. Residents could go on a bus tour of the de Havilland site where the sports club is located. Delegates also had time to share their own personal experiences with each other over lunch.

Feedback forms demonstrated that the residents enjoyed the event and how much they got out of it. Many residents commented that they had learned a lot from the day and found it very useful. Claire Astbury Regional Manager - East of England, National Housing Federation said I had a good day. The tour of the De Havilland site was really interesting, and I really enjoyed meeting the tenants and residents and hearing about what they were doing in their neighbourhoods. The event was well organised and the venue was great too - all in all a successful conference I think.

Keynote speeches were delivered by Claire Astbury, The National Housing Federations Regional Manager and Darren Walsh, who gave a speech about the de Havilland site.
