More about Registered Social Landlords (RSLs)

Housing Associations are not for profit organisations that own and manage homes. They are usually controlled by management boards made up of volunteers, including residents.

The majority of Housing Associations are regulated by the Housing Corporation, a government body which is also a major source of funding. Some are also registered charities.

There are nearly 2000 Housing Associations in the U.K. and together they account for over two million homes (source: The Housing Corporation, 2006). Associations usually work closely with local councils in order to house people in need and to build new homes .
